Tom Hewlett finished a well worked move midway through the first half before an own goal after good work from Ben Hart ensured all three points.

Burton finally broke the deadlock in the half hour mark. Tom Armitage and Hewlett fantastically linked up once more down the left, the former played a great ball across goal and the nippy striker Hewlett tucked home.

It should have been two before half-time however, Hewlett with some brilliant running down the channel, squared brilliantly for Carter. He made space in the box before smashing the crossbar.

The young Brewers almost made it three midway through the second half. Hewlett again with some excellent work up top, finding Vale who’s effort from the edge of the box cannoned back off the post.

Notts County pulled a goal back late on but it wasn’t enough to stop the Brewers taking all three points!
