In December 2014, fire destroyed six large industrial units along Wattville Road and Middlemore Industrial Estate in Smethwick. The event was a major incident causing millions of pounds worth of damage, closing local roads and a nearby primary school and involving up to 80 firefighters.

The fire began in the early hours of the morning and rapidly became a dangerous scene, although there were no reports of any injuries. Many of the units, which housed electrical goods, clothes and stationary supplies, were badly damaged, with some at risk of collapse.

Unit 1, Wattville Industrial Estate was one of the six large industrial units affected and Prestec, as a specialist in structural repair and refurbishment, was appointed to make good the damage.

Work commenced in June 2015, with Prestec undertaking the cleaning, repair, painting and decorating of both the unit and attached offices. The project took 6 weeks to complete, with Prestec providing a cost-effective, durable solution offering optimum long-term performance and requiring minimum maintenance.
